It was a perfect opening for the Miss Texas Southern University 2008-2009 pageant, beginning with an array of career contestants possessing charm, poise and brilliance. Beauty, self-confidence, and glamour were in abundance as the ladies took to the stage, while working the runway to the sound of Beyonce's 'World Wide Woman.'
Gracing the stage from several states, countries, and backgrounds, 11 young ladies entered the Miss TSU pageant vying for the crown of Miss TSU.
The audience was entertained with singing, poetry, lyrical dance, an instrumental solo, and limerick monologues. In spite of technical difficulties, the young ladies persevered and portrayed the true poise that every queen must possess.
The 11 contestants, each worthy of the title, displayed great confidence during the event as they displayed their bathing attire, performed their various talents and paraded in their evening gowns, The ladies made a final appearance in their evening gowns and responded to questions from the hosts. This portion of the pageant was trying for many of the contestants and was evident in the delayed responses and dubious answers.
Prior to the announcement of the new Miss TSU, the reigning queen Miss Isis Alliniece, made a final appearance on stage expressing her gratitude to the organizers and wishing the pageant many years of success. Alliniece stated that her time as queen "has impacted my life and I have no doubt that the new queen will do well with the title."
