It is 12:00 noon on the campus of Texas Southern University and you hear a loud commotion on the Tigerwalk. The D.J (C-Styles) is blasting the latest songs by Lil Wayne and Beyonce. Everyone is dancing and conversing with friends as C-Styles screams over the mic, "This is brought to you by the University Program Council (U.P.C)."

U.P.C. is the official programming arm of the Sterling Student Life Center. We coordinate, plan, schedule, and present activities and programs to entertain and inform the TSU family. We are a student-run organization with membership open to all full-time and part-time students. So join, have fun, present your ideas, and come ready to work. Annual events such as our Comedy Nights, Mixers, Casino Nights, and Fun Bus trips prove to always be successful and entertaining.

Though we are known for having D.J.s on the yard, we do so much more. Projects such as our Prom Dress and Can Food Drives and performances for local public schools have benefited the community. The Spiritual Awareness Committee has sponsored forums and religious performances. The Forum II committee of UPC has brought national and international speakers such as Cornel West, Jawanza Kunjufu and Fox Rich. Trips to the Ensemble Theatre, and movie premieres are also regular events on the UPC schedule

The University Program Council this year is focusing on increasing school spirit and would love for all students to sign up to make every year better than the last. With different committees such as Cinema, which hosts movie nights on and off-campus and Social Recreation, which hosts larger events like our Mardi Gras Mambo and talent shows, U.P.C. continues to be true to its slogan "We Work Our Tails Off For You!!!"

Tiffany Mull is the University Program Council Secretary and a contributing writer for THE HERALD.
